Migrate your Microsoft 365 tenant globally with no business impact or data loss.
Following a merger, our client needed to transition a subsidiary’s Microsoft 365 tenant encompassing mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams and Azure subscriptions into theirs. Given the contractual deadlines, we had a relatively short timeframe to coordinate the migration, and there were decades worth of data and users in five countries to migrate with zero downtime and data loss.
Challenges
Timeline - The contractual timeline demanded we migrate everyone very quickly, in a coordinated manner.
Zero downtime and data loss - The business needed to keep operating, and there could be no loss of data that users had created over the last decade.
Global Environment - There were users located in the US, France, Italy, Singapore, and the UK. We needed to be conscious of time zones and to phase the work.
The Solution
We undertook an audit of the entire tenant, including counting every mailbox, site and workload, and to ensure agreement with our stakeholders on the priorities for migration.
We then used the Quest On Demand Migration tool to migrate the Mailbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, Power Automate, Teams and Azure subscriptions.
For everything that could use the O365 assessment, we undertook test migrations for these workloads; once we validated the workload was migrated accurately, we then migrated the rest of the workloads.
Then, to minimize any business disruption, we scheduled the migrations over weekends, with post-migration trailing checking to ensure we caught up with any workloads that remained un-migrated.
The Impact
Unrestricted scale - There were 595 mailboxes (around 2 TB), OneDrive (~3.6 TB) and 405 SharePoint sites (over 1.65 TB) migrants without downtime and data loss.
Unified security and compliance: Security and compliance - all users are now under one governance policy as they all exist in one tenant.
Smooth global transition: Phased migrations across six months ensured users in different countries experienced no disruption.
