This is a follow-up to an earlier blog post about How to import/export quiz questions to Drupal. As mentioned earlier Quiz questions import (qq_import) module is one of the potential modules to import quiz questions into Drupal from external sources. The Drupal 7 version of the same has been just released and this version includes a major architectural change from the previous release i.e. we have developed to take the advantage of Feeds module.

Feeds module as described by its developer,

Import or aggregate data as nodes, users, taxonomy terms or simple database records.
    • One-off imports and periodic aggregation of content
  • Import or aggregate RSS/Atom feeds
  • Import or aggregate CSV files
  • Import or aggregate OPML files
  • PubSubHubbub support
  • Create nodes, users, taxonomy terms or simple database records from import
  • Extensible to import any other kind of content
  • Granular mapping of input elements to Drupal content elements
  • Exportable configurations
  • Batched import for large files

This is a milestone to have a solid import module going forward. The first release for the same is what we have now.

As said, it makes the task of importing nodes easier by providing a set of fetcher, processor, and mapper (don't want to go much deeper about it in this post). Since the quiz module is designed to take advantage of the node architecture, we believe this is pretty much aligned to our use case and certainly worth going forward with its implementation.

Once installed the qq_import provides a set of importers, ideally one per question type, and can be configured as needed from the Feeds administration page.

Here is what our client said about not having a solid import module for quizzes,

In many ways, without this (import) feature, the Quiz module is a bit handicapped ;)

I certainly agree with this statement!

Our interest is not limited to this :) we have more modules developed (especially question types based -- for instance: mindmaps, typing practice, word puzzle, Simple MCQ, etc.,) and are planning to share the same community in the coming days. I take this opportunity to thank all our clients for their cooperation and understanding of the way the Drupal ecosystem works and for trying to be a part of its growth.

We are also in the progress of relaunching a service quiz professional support in the coming days to aid the sustainable growth of the quiz module and to support its adaptability.
